Linh shrugged her shoulders a bit, turning her head to either side in order to crack her neck.
“You’re right, it doesn’t get boring - traveling is entertaining and every once in a while I take on tasks from the residents of Skyrim,” she said, eyeing the horizon. “You’d be surprised, however, just how much I sell just from traveling. There are always travelers on the road and many of them are in need of a potion - especially the ones who’ve just left home for the first time.”
Laughing, the Dunmer pulled out a jug and took a long drink from it. She offered it to Dar’Kama with a smile, after assuring him it was only water.
“Your line of work seems much more fun than mine, though. And if I’m correct in assuming that you work with a guild, I’m sure you’re very good at what you do,” Linh said with another grin, accepting her water back and stowing it away. “Anything interesting lately?”
Dar’Kama listened intently to Linh’s explantion, giving her a few glances as he walked. He heard her and was readying his replies, but he had his eyes trained on a group of Mammoths in the distance. They were far enough away from the giant beasts to be safe, but Dar’Kama could feel his fur rising on his neck, arms and tail.
”I am glad I was raised on the roads, I can’t even imagine what it would be like to be in this wilderness for the first time, now knowing what to expect.” He commented. “I’m sure you’ve saved plenty of cubs from death.”
Dar’Kama took the offering of water happily, glad to be able to relieve the raw feeling in his throat. He was mentally thanking the Divines for allowing him to meet Orelinhe. He would make sure to give her something of value for all her assistance.
”Well treasure seeking is only enjoyable when you have practice and the know-how. I did learn a lot after getting in some guilds, but my parents taught me the most. I could share my knowledge if you’re ever interested.” He purred, he relished in every chance to share what he knew. He was not afraid of competition, he loved it as it pushed him to improve.
“As for interesting… my last amazing find was an intricately decorated war axe. The only thing special about it was the fact that it could turn it’s user invisible so long as blood remained on the axe. An associate of mine paid a high price to buy it from me, even though I had wanted to keep it.”
He was pretty sure Delvin sold that axe to the Dark Brotherhood…
Dar’Kama glanced back to the mammoths which were finally walking in the other direction, which made him relax. Until he saw the group of people riding from Whiterun. They were far in the distance, and it would take awhile before they crossed paths. He feared for the worst.
As soon as Linh saw mammoths, she whined to herself, being very careful to search for giants anywhere nearby. When she saw none, she simply steadied her pace along with Dar’Kama’s and waited for them to pass as they walked.
“I hate mammoths,” she grumbled first, readying her hand on her axe. She was hoping she wouldn’t need it - but even when the mammoths turned she kept herself alert. “In any case, yes, I have… Although the cubs and younger travelers I meet I can spare a few free potions on. We all had to start somewhere - and there are too many who simply attack the weak.”
Linh listened to the Khajiit speak, a smile growing on her face once more at his mention of teaching her treasure hunting. It would be nice to learn some of the trade - adventure was something she missed in her retired life. And the spoils would be nice, as well.
“I wouldn’t mind learning a bit,” she admitted to him, running her gloved finger down the blade of her weapon absently before placing her hand back at the hilt. “In return I could teach you some ways to recognize potions that may have been slipped to you.”
The elf assumed that Dar’Kama had enemies - why else would someone drug him - and even if he wasn’t going to teach her anything, she would still share her knowledge.
“That axe sounds… lovely,” Linh said softly after he’d explained about it, “especially for a mercenary. The perfect weapon to use in battle.”
And speaking of battle, she could feel her companion tense as he saw the riders leaving Whiterun. Again she ran her fingers down the blade of her axe before drawing it and hoisting it against her shoulder. Better to be prepared than dead.

Dar’Kama grinned at Linh’s observation, a small chuckle making it’s way out of his throat. “I think ‘raider’ makes me sound like a heathen. I do use skill in my work and I always treat the ruins with care and respect. As much as I can provide clearing out it’s valuables that is.” He thought a moment before he continued talking, his ears flicking at the sound of a bird fleeing it’s roost in a pine tree they passed.
“If I didn’t keep any for myself I would be rather poor. And sometimes it is best to keep certain items out of the hands of my clients.” His tail swished with that comment, he had kept many potentially misused items out of the wrong hands, he liked to think that was something to be proud of.
“And I think my lifespan will be longer than others of my trade. I’ve had lessons upon lessons since I was a child. I have the keen sight of a Khajiit, and the knowlege to know when things are out of my hands.” He tried not to be too prideful but he liked to consider himself the top of the line in treasure-seekers. Much of the coin he earned nowadays was split evenly between The Companions and the Thieves Guild, with more to his Companions of course seeing how their work saved lives.
He made sure to listen to Orelinhe’s story closely, wanting to be able to learn more about her and asses her character. She was a former mercenary which meant she had plenty of battle experience, though it was easy to tell so by the way she walked. A sure walk, open and confident, she was comfortable in the dangerous landscape of Skyrim.
“I see, though I’m sure you won’t let retired life be boring. You have come to Skyrim after all- so how much business do you get selling training and potions?” He knew that most caravans made plenty of money on the roads, he wondered if it was different for a lone Dunmer. Though she probably didn’t need to make much coin he was curious about her choice of trade.
The trees began to thin out and the plains yawned open before them. Dar’Kama could see the faint visage of Whiterun on the horizon. It must have been just before midday, the sun was near the middle of the sky.
Linh shrugged her shoulders a bit, turning her head to either side in order to crack her neck.

“I don’t recall seeing any newcomers… I was rather tired seeing how I just finished a tough job.” Dar’Kama replied, he had pretty much dragged himself to the Bannered Mare and was too focused on filling his belly to give much attention to anything else.
He was getting lazy, sloppy. What had happened to always being ready? He had gotten to comfortable… he should have known they would be back.
Dar’Kama did his best to push down his resurfacing paranoia and he cleared his throat. He knew a bit about Winterhold, he’d traveled there several times as the Mages like to hire him often.
“I would appreciate the escort. I know a few spells as well so I won’t be entirely useless if we’re attacked.” He sniffed the air, and could only pick up the scents of a guard patrol that had passed through and a farmer’s wagon. They wouldn’t face too many problems for a little while.
“First thing I want to do is go home and get my gear and proper clothes. Then I can launch an investigation. You might be able to help me, being an alchemist and I can certainly pay you back for your services.” Dar’Kama said as he began to walk out to the road.
Linh nodded at Dar’Kama’s request. She didn’t mind accompanying him back to Whiterun to gather his things, and it’d been a long while since she had had a proper adventure. So that was a plus. She hoisted her bag onto her back once more once the Khajiit had begun to walk, hopping over a log that stood near the road.
“The road to Whiterun shouldn’t be very dangerous,” she said with a smile as they fell into step with one another on the cobblestone. The smell of grass and clean air was nice after being in the snowy mountains. “Although magic is always useful.”
As they walked, she scanned the hills for any signs of danger. The road might not be dangerous - but it never hurt to exercise caution when traveling through Skyrim. Especially on the road. She said nothing about her payment, that could be discussed at a later date.
“So you work freelance for hire?” she asked eventually, bored of the silence between them.
Dar’Kama kept his ears upright and tilted forward, and he breathed steadily through his nose, keeping alert as they moved on. There had been a Thalmor patrol through the area… and he had a feeling that there were corpses strewn in the wilderness. He wouldn’t worry about it, he probably hadn’t transformed in front of anyone so it could be assumed the wildlife claimed the high elves, once he got rid of the blood in his fur.
“Aye. I’ve reached the point where I can do my work at leisure and I take the jobs as they come to me.” He yawned and sighed. “I’m a treasure hunter of sorts. I go into ruins and tombs so others don’t have to.” That was the best way he could summarize his work, though he was starting to feel like an architect and and expert at identifying ruins and structures.
He enjoyed Linh’s presence, it was hard to find someone so willing to lend an hand like that.
“Essentially a raider,” Linh said with a laugh, hands clasped behind her head as she walked. She felt no need to be on edge until a threat arose, and the Thalmor weren’t due for another round until near sunset. “I assume you keep some for yourself, though. I’ve not met one treasure hunter who didn’t. Although I’ve not met many more than once - the proud ones don’t live for too long.”
The smile on the Elf’s face stayed firmly planted there as she spoke, and when she’d finished she cast a glance in Dar’Kama’s direction. She wasn’t used to company when she came down from her place in the mountains, and a companion to walk with was nice.
“I used to hire myself as a warrior, but it reminded me too much of my home. Now I travel, selling potions or teaching magic to those who will pay for it,” she murmured eventually, hands dropping to her sides. A laugh escaped her after a moment. “It’s surprising how much coin one can make as a mercenary - retirement has treated me well.”

“Were there any new people in the town? Travelers?” Linh asked, before nodding slowly at the man’s question, thinking over what he could have been given. There were a number of potions that could have been used, but none came to mind automatically. The possibilities needed to be narrowed.
“Yes, I am,” she said with another smile, packing all of her things away and standing once her bag was back over her shoulder. “I spent a few seasons in Winterhold studying, but one can only handle the snow for so long.”
Laughing softly, Linh turned her eyes to the road. Perhaps they should try and head back into town and find out more about this suspicious evening that Dar’Kama had had. She was curious, if only because she wanted to know the potions used against him.
“Would you like me to accompany you back to town? I at least have a weapon?”

“It is a pleasure to meet you, Dar’Kama,” Linh said with another small smile, before she perched herself on a rock and began to look through her bag once more. “You were in Whiterun? Because I wouldn’t put it past some of the residents to pull something of that sort.”
She rolled her eyes a bit and waved a hand in the air, eyes still focused on her bag. Once she’d uncovered what she wanted, she held it up for him.
“Here, it’s a simple healing potion. Should ease the pain of that burn, and I’m sure you’ve got quite a headache,” she murmured, “I made them myself. Just finished them yesterday, actually.”
She paused for a moment, looking him over with furrowed eyebrows. There was no denying that his eyes had the glazed look of one who had been drugged, even one who wasn’t trained in alchemy would have been able to tell.
The Khajiit shook his head. “I’ve been in Whiterun for awhile, nobody there would drug me in such a manner. Especially with me being a Companion.”
Dar’Kama took the healing potion and looked back at Linhe. “You’re an alchemist then?” He uncorked the bottle and took a quick breath before gulping the contents down quickly, content to trust the woman seeing how she had offered him clothes. Still there was that nagging voice telling him it could all be a trick.
The effect was surprisingly quick and the taste of flesh was rinsed from his mouth, which he was grateful for. He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, and handed the empty bottle back to her.

Dar’Kama’s ears flicked as the elf appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. He had been to focused on trying to remember what happened and feeling miserable to notice. Seeing as this elf was a woman he quickly sidestepped behind a bush and cleared his throat.
She seemed to be non-threatening and he realized that he at least was not in danger of being mugged seeing how he had no belongings on his person.
“H-hello.” He muttered, glancing down at himself, wondering why she wasn’t frightened as he was covered in high-elf blood.
“I’m sorry that you’re meeting me in such a state. I’m usually… well presentable.” He muttered.
There was a long pause of awkward silence, briefly puncuated by the chittering of birds.
“Where are we exactly? I don’t recall much of what happened to me last night.” His ears tucked back as his brows knitted, as he was reminded of the pain radiating from his skull and hip.
Before Linh introduced herself, she placed her bag on the ground and knelt to search through it. She’d met a few thieves not too long ago and their encounter had been less than pleasant - meaning she had a spare set of robes tucked away.
“Here,” she said, stifling another laugh and quickly handing the robes and a pelt to the Khajiit. “In any case - you’re just south of the mountains on Whiterun side - you’re lucky I decided Winterhold wasn’t worth the trouble. It seems you’ve had quite a night.”
Leaning against one of the nearby trees, Linh studied the Khajiit. He was covered in Altmer blood, burned, and deserted in the forest. Despite the blood however, he didn’t seem threatening and who was she kidding, the high elves were rather snooty at times. Eventually anyone would want to take a swing at them.
“I am Órelinhë,” she introduced once he’d clothed himself. “Órelinhë Minyatur. Although most call me Linh.”
“So it seems. Thank you.” He said as he quickly got dressed. The robes fit him oddly as they were tailored for a woman but they would do until he got home.
He stepped away from the bush as she introduced herself. He pulled at the waistline of the clothing until it sat more comfortably.
“I think I’ll have to call you Linh, I don’t think my muzzle would allow me to pronounce your full name. I’m Dar’Kama.” He said scratching at the clumped fur on his neck.
“This is bizarre for me. I didn’t even have a drop of mead last night… perhaps someone slipped me something.” He muttered.
His stomach dropped when he realized that was probably what had happened. He had been getting careless, wrapped up in false security. Just when he thought he could get away from those things. But what could have caused him to turn into his beast form?
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Dar’Kama,” Linh said with another small smile, before she perched herself on a rock and began to look through her bag once more. “You were in Whiterun? Because I wouldn’t put it past some of the residents to pull something of that sort.”

Órelinhë had been traveling down from the mountains when she’d caught the noises of another traveler. She’d been resting on a low branch of a tree, one of her journals perched in her right hand as she scribbled in it with her left - stopping only when she could hear the rustling of leaves and quiet grumbling. And after snapping the journal closed and stashing it away in the pouch at her side, she stood and hopped down to the snow dusted ground.
As she walked, she eventually caught sight of a Khajiit - and had to suppress a laugh.
“Vandui’, traveler,” the Dunmer called, doing her best to look as non-threatening as possible. There was a small smile on her face, and she kept her eyes directly on his own. “It isn’t often I come across another in my travels from the mountains. And even less often that it is a Khajiit.”
